Rhona Howarth

Rhona is co founder and Director of Governance Works.  Rhona has a detailed and practical knowledge governance and has conducted consultancy and developed training in governance for a wide range of organisations in the UK and overseas.  She is an adviser and trainer on small enterprise, with wide experience of setting up and advising support organisations and funders. She has designed and implemented programmes for business advisers and NGO’s in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East. Rhona co-founded the highly successful renewable energy company Border Wind and holds an MA in entrepreneurship from the University of Durham. Rhona is an honorary fellow of the University of Durham Business School.

Rhona’s roots are in the co-operative and the social enterprise sector, where, as well as having been a founder and member of several co-operatives, she became a board member of the National Co-operative Development Agency, and chaired Industrial Co-operative Finance Limited. Rhona is currently a board member and Chairperson of Creative Consumer Co-operative Ltd – ‘Out of this World’. Rhona has published widely on social enterprise, finance, rural development, training, and women’s development.

Rhona has particular expertise and experience working with arts and cultural organisations and has recently worked with Theatre Royal (Newcastle), Northern Film and Media, Northern Cultural Skills Partnership and the Waygood Gallery.

Christine Morrison

Christine is a co founder and Director of Governance Works. She is a leading authority in governance in the public, private, and voluntary sectors. A former director of the pioneering management consultancy RTI Ltd., Christine founded Profunding in 1993 which became one of the first on-line funding services www.fundinginformation.org.

Christine’s values are firmly rooted in her early community development work in the voluntary sector, which led her to develop both “Women as Managers” courses for public sector professionals and innovative approaches to equal opportunities implementation. Christine has provided consultancy services for many organisations in the public and voluntary sectors. Christine is a past editor of the Women’s Journal and is the author of a groundbreaking study Donor Motivation. Her current research interests include organisational applications of personal construct theory.  Christine is also a Director and Trustee of the YHA.

Our associates are selected on the basis of their experience as trainers and facilitators, background knowledge and experience within the not for profit sector and their understanding and interest in governance.  As a consequence we are able to match the associate and the organisation to get the ‘best fit’.
